A New Short Film - Attempted

Over two years ago, I wrote and filmed this short in Houston Texas. It took some time, but I finally have an edit I'm happy with. Please enjoy this little dark comedy that has grown so close to my heart.

3D

It still has a few kinks in it. But I think I understand how to manipulate 3D now.

Green Screen - "F### U Productions"

Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to introduce to you the product of the depletion of creative juices. I had no freaking idea what to do for this project. Sooo I just made a little production logo. I played around with some shapes and noise and stylistic effects. As far as green screen was concerned, I just keyed it out and replaced it with solids. Texture sort of stuff.

Particles - "Airborne Toxic Event Title"

Again, had to keep the title simple. So my particles ended up being more of a texture. I used the particle world effect with the line particle. Just experimented with the options and ended up with a sort of straw like effect.

Then, I went into photoshop and created an arrow. This idea was taken from one of their album covers.

For the title, hover, I went with a warmer color scheme to match the warmth of the white lights in the show. Then did some text animation with a font similar to that of the album cover.

Good Mime/Bad Mime

This is a short I made a couple months ago. Used some simple photoshop for the title and end credits.

Text - "YELLE Logo"

Last week I used a combination of photoshop and After Effects to create an animated title for a concert a shot. The band is YELLE. They are french electro pop.

I found the cover to their new album Safari Disco Club and created a similar logo in photoshop.

Photoshop File

Then I brought the logo into after effects and created the text using the Lithos Pro font. I found it matched the safari theme. After, I animated the scale as well as put some blur animation on the text for a subtle, yet interesting fade in. Once I had my rendered movie, I added it to Final Cut and changed the composite type to screen. This made the black transparent.

For a background, I used a video matte, and using the screen composite I was able to key frame a solid in the background to change color from the album's tan to a deep blue that matched the show's lighting.

The song titles were similar, except a animated a stretch for the logo and made the oval horizontal.

Motion Tracking - "Honesty"

Let's face it. I am just not very good at motion tracking. Plus, being swamped at work pushed me to do something simple. So, all in all, this project is a bit janky. But i do like the idea of motion tracking and I plan on developing my skills in this area and hopefully be able to do some seriously cool stuff with it in the future.

I shot this with my imac at work.

Shapes, Masks, Mattes - "Star Power"

For this one, I knew I wanted to mess with the star shape. I find them alarming myself and figured I could really put my fear of them into an animation.

So, using a mask, I created a cute little plump star. I put him in a corn field for that horror movie feel. Although, I do like the bird chirping. I give the video some quiet time in order to disarm the view (muhahahaha!).

I was fortunate to find a picture of a farmer hangin' with his sheep. Classic. In photoshop, I used a mask to pen him out of his background, them slapped him into AE. I also separated his head into a new layer.

From there, I created the star's face, parented it to the body. Then I animated the star's jump and at the midway point, I altered his path to create a sort of scissor look. Once he was close enough to the farmer, I altered the path again to pinch the farmer's head off. Animating the head flying was simple enough, then I had the star follow the same route back to his original position and path.

In the end, I animated some simple paint effects for the blood and threw in a few sounds.

I had some serious render issues with this one. The audio wasn't righty and the video was all janky. After setting the audio to 4400KB, it worked, although the aspect ratio is still a bit off. Meh, I was just ready to move on. Anywho, enjoy!

Advanced After Effects - "Dali Madness"

For this project, I looked to some of my favorite works of art for inspiration. And Dali is my number 1 fav.

For my character, I wanted something simple. So I chose a Man's silhouette .
From there, I separated the jaw into a new layer, and created eyes using simple shapes, also in separate layers. I also stretched him out a bit to give him a more cartoony look.

Then, I parented the jaw and eyeball to the head, animated his entrance and exit, then rotated the jaw for the dialogue, which I recorded simply with quicktime.  I brought the dialogue into soundtrack pro to get rid of the background noise. Just a quick clean up.

After slapping the audio into the after effects track, I just synced them up with the jaw movement and that's it. One weird little animation.

Intro to After Effects - "Magic Balloon"

This is a sad little video, but the one I had been working on got a bit complicated, so I'm saving it for Project #3.

Pretty simple layout. I made custom shapes for clouds, painted a building and the crow in photoshop. The balloon is a simple shape as well. I added a slight blur effect on the building and of course did a weird color correction on the crow, thus making the balloon "magical."

Of course my sounds are the crow scream and some wind.

Honestly, I have no idea what this little video means hahaha But I believe it satisfies the assignment's requirements so I'm happy with it

Project #1 - "Super"

I had trouble deciding what to do for my first project. Forcing inspiration is never fun, but My Morning Jacket helped me get weird and spacey for this one.

The baby's face is made of of two different children. By using a mask, I combined their mouths to form this weird half smile drooling mouth. Then some simple color overlays to make the eyes. Some stars combined with a glow ball made up the background (after masking the baby's original background). The green circle is actually a sunset that I manipulated to look like a strange dry orb.

In my opinion, this is the birth of Superman. Don't know why but there ya go.
